Future US Navy Accident Investigations Will Look for Cyber Attacks

An interesting article was published by www.defenseone.com

It talks about U.S. Navy’s investigation of the 21 August 2017 collision of USS McCain with a cargo ship off Singapore. That accident followed a similar incident on 17 June 2017 involving another destroyer, USS Fitzgerald.

According to the admiral who leads the service’s cyber operations, there’s no evidence yet that any hostile electronic breach led to recent U.S. Navy mishaps. However, "codifying how we will do these types of mishap investigations to account for a cyber component going forward is where we will learn from the results of the McCain investigation" [...]. Eventually, the Navy will “make it part of the normal process of how we do mishap investigations." -- Vice Adm. Jan Tighe, USN
